Abstract

The staining artificial acrylic resin teeth may be associated to the abrasion caused by brushing, resulting in higher deposition of dyes from beverages, and consequently aesthetic damage. The objective of this study is to evaluate the stability of color in artificial acrylic resin teeth after being submitted to a mechanical method (re-polishing) and a chemical method (immersion in Corega Tabs - sodium perborate) removal of extrinsic stains. The specimens correspond to acrylic resin upper central incisors (Biotone, n=120) that will be divided into two study sequences, half of the sample will be subjected to brushing and then immersion in beverages (Coke, coffe and destilled water) and the other half will be subject only to immersion in beverages. For brushing, 11,000 brushing cycles will be conducted in brushing machine, simulating a period of one year. The same period will be simulated during immersion of the specimens in instant coffee, Coke and distilled water (control) for 12 days. The proposed methods of removing stains (re-polishing and immersion in Corega Tabs - sodium perborate) will be conducted in accordance with pre-established protocols. The re-polishing will be performed using rotating stiff bristle brushes with pumice slurry followed by rotating felt cones with chalk powder, and immersion in Corega Tabs will be conducted at 7 cycles of 5 minutes, simulating a total period of 7 days of use of the product. Color stability will be captured by a spectrophotometer, conducted on separate occasions: T0 (before treatment), T1 (after immersion in beverages) and T2 (after re-polishing or immersion in sodium perborate). Data will be submitted to appropriate statistical tests, according to the adherence to normality, considering a significance level of 5%.
