Abstract

Asthma is characterized by airflow limitation and reversibility even after bronchodilator administration, this limitation can be determined by pulmonary function and functional capacity may be impaired in public due to pulmonary change. Objectives: To evaluate pulmonary function and functional capacity of patients with asthma. Method: A cross-sectional study will be conducted in asthmatic children and adolescents from the outpatient physiotherapy Universidade Nove July. In the asthma group patients aged between seven and 17 years, diagnosed with moderate persistent asthma or severe persistent asthma who are in treatment and control of disease determined by the medical team will be included. Those who are excluded: not performing the evaluations of the protocol, interruption of medical treatment and / or medication treatment, presence of acute lung infection or other chronic lung diseases, comorbidities, and smoking. The control group will consist of individuals matched on age and gender with the asthmatic group , and will be deleted if they exhibit any acute or chronic cardiopulmonary disease , physical activity more than twice a week , or those who are unable to perform the evaluations of the protocol. These control group volunteers will come from the municipal school EMEF CARLOS ANDRADE Rizzini. Spirometry will be performed to determine lung function and to evaluate the functional capacity will be the shuttle-walking test (SWT). This test will be done in a corridor of 10 meters with acoustic stimuli will increase gradually reaching a maximum of 12 levels. The SWT is a simple and low cost, which can be evaluated at maximal exercise capacity based on the distance test. Expected to determine the functional capacity of asthma patients and compare them with healthy volunteers, to determine whether or not differences between them.
