A contribution to systems of systems architectural representation

Abstract

Software systems that have become increasingly large and complex due to the combination of operationally independent and geographically distributed systems are referenced as Systems-of-Systems (SoS). In parallel, we observe the importance of software architectures for determining system qualities such as maintainability, interoperability, performance, and reliability. In this sense, the architecture description is the main artifact used to access and analyse systems qualities. Despite the relevance of software architectures for the construction of software systems, the software architecture of SoS description is often build without an adequate care, which may be impacting their quality. The main purpose of this proposal is to establish an architecture description framework and supporting methods and techniques for describing SoS with a special focus on quality attributes. During the internship, the candidate will join a well recognized Software Architecture research group in Europe. The collaboration with this international research group will certainly strengthen our contributions to the Software Architecture domain. (AU)
