Agricultural conditions in agreement with the current environmental standards have promoted interest in scientific research not only in agricultural products, but also in the entire productive system. The Brazilian agriculture has a distinct position in the world scenery. In this context, the chemical analysis of water and agricultural soils that have been added with industrial wastes as a source of nutrients and determination of potentially toxic elements are important for the establishment of agricultural and environmental quality parameters and the feasibility of this practice. Thus, this research plan proposes the development of analytical procedures for determination of total concentrations and chemical speciation of As, Cr and Se by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) techniques. It is also proposed a systematic evaluation of optical emission and mass spectrometry coupled to ICP, including the evaluation of potentiality of ICP-MS/MS (tandem mass spectrometry) to overcome spectral interferences in the determination of As, Cr and Se. For speciation analysis, different strategies for sample preparation, separation of the organic and inorganic species by chromatography using monolithic columns and sequential injection chromatography (SIC) will be evaluated.
