Abstract

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a technique that is based on topical or systemic administration of a photosensitizer that after accumulate in diseased tissue and exposed to light of the appropriate wavelength are capable to generates oxygen reactive species inactivating or lead to cell death. Among the currently studied photosensitizers can highlight hypericin, which also has great potential as a fluorescent probe. In this work we propose the study of biological approach to new formulations containing this compound which are more soluble in physiological media, both in the form of salts of hypericin ( hypericinates ) and the encapsulation of this compound in peptides nanotubes. It is expected to correlate the solubility in physiological media, interaction and selectivity to cancer cells with the structural properties of macrocycles studied, allowing structure activity correlation among these photosensitizing drug candidates .
