Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of different post&core configurations on the fatigue and fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth. Forty extracted single-rooted upper pre-molars will be sectioned at the CEJ and subsequently endodontically treated. After 24-h water storage at 37°C, specimens will be restored according to four build-up configurations (n=10 per group): (a) glass-fiber post (GC Fibre Post, GC) and composite core (Gradia Core, GC), (b) customized fiber post (EverStick Post, GC) and composite core (Gradia Core, GC), (c) 'post&core-in-one' using a fiber-reinforced composite (EverX Posterior, GC), and (d) ceramic endo-crown (Empress CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) without post&core. All tooth preparations/restorations will be standardized regarding post and core dimensions. The teeth will finally be restored with all-ceramic CEREC crowns (Empress CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) that will adhesively be luted using the composite cement G-Cem LinkAce (GC). After 1-week storage in water, the teeth will be fatigued by exposure to 1,200,000 cycles using a chewing simulator (Willytech) following a 45° loading device (Micro-Tester, Instron). Failures will be classified in 'repairable' and 'not-repairable'. The data will be subjected to proper statistical analysis (±=0.05). (AU)
