Abstract

Periodontitis is a multifactorial chronic inflammatory disease highly prevalent in the population, which affects the supporting tissues of the teeth generating sequels difficult to solve even with the most modern regenerative techniques. Cell therapy seems to be a promising alternative and undifferentiated cells of the periodontal ligament (PDLSC) has shown great therapeutic potential. However, PDLSC require appropriate stimuli biomodificadores for the differentiation to occur. The Enamel Matrix Derivative (EMD) is a type of biomodificador that promotes periodontal regeneration through formation of new cementum. Despite being used clinically, its association with fresh periodontal ligament cells has not been explored. The objective of this study is to evaluate the regenerative potential of cells removed from the periodontal ligament and identify the feasibility of association with the EMD through the analysis of gene expression and protein.
