Abstract

The Standard Penetration Test (SPT) has great appeal as its application in prediction of bearing capacity of foundations and even today remains the most used in situ test. Moreover, Ranzini (1988) proposed the measure of the torque required to break the adhesion soil - sampler after the end of each SPT test. That parameter can be used to calculate the skin friction of piles. In that way, some companies are already using in the practice of engineering. Peixoto (2001), in her PhD thesis, studied the SPT-T test and its application in practice of Foundations Engineering. In that research, it was developed a system that enabled simultaneous acquisition of the torque measure and its corresponding rotational speed, resulting in 426 curves at seven locations: 20 at Santos; 61 at the campus of UNESP Bauru; 85 at the School of Engineering of São Carlos City- USP; 57 at the Campus of UNESP in Ilha Solteira City; 34 at the Federal University of Lavras City (MG); 61 at the Polytechnic School in São Paulo City; and 108 at the School of Agricultural Engineering of UNICAMP Campinas City. Through those results, this undergraduate research aims to make a detailed analysis of the data obtained by Peixoto (2001) to establish the influence of rotational speed and its maximum thrust in the maximum residual torque. So through our database you can do analysis on the question of the influence of the rotation speed at the moment of maximum torque and address some questions that still exist in the use of the SPT -T test.
