Paulista Company museum: a survey in industrial museum

Abstract

This project proposes a study on the visitation in an industrial museum: the "Museu Companhia Paulista", localized in the "Complexo de Oficinas da Companhia Paulista" in Jundiaí - and preserved by IPHAN and CONDEPHAAT. Our purpose is to research its historical and technological value as a cultural heritage and evaluate its use as a cultural facility and tourist attraction. In terms of specific objectives, we also expect to understand the operation of the museum, check the promotion of cultural tourism by the city hall; analyze visitors profile and their perception of the Museum, especially those coming through the "Express Tourist Train Luz - Jundiaí"; study the preservation process of the Workshops of Companhia Paulista by IPHAN and, finally, evaluate the physical structure of the museum and its reception services. For this purpose, we will check protection and intervention documents related to the museum and cultural heritage, seek information about the actual museum structure, seek documentary information about the museum protected through the preservation process, and evaluate the physical aspects of the site through an observation research. In addition, we will have interviews with employees and officials, questionnaires with local visitors and tourists, literature searches and supplementary readings in order to deepen all the questions discussed. In summary, our study of the Museum as a tourist attraction aims to examine institutional forms of preservation and use of the protected asset selected for study, and in particular check its condition as a tourist attraction. This way, we expect this research to arouse interest in heritage preservation and be a way to think about strategies for conscious use of these spaces. (AU)
