In the book Democracy and rhetoric, Nathan Crick defends that the conceptions of John Dewey were influenced by Sophists. This influence is evidenced by how Dewey conceived notions of art, communication , experience, and democracy , this design lies in the rhetorical universe. However, Crick's investigation doesn't use rhetoric as a research method, nor extend their considerations to the field of educational theories deweyanas . The research proposed here aims to accomplish these two goals: through the theoretical and methodological approach called rhetorical analysis , in line with the principles of the Research Group on Rhetoric and Argumentation Pedagogy , examine the speeches of Dewey , Gorgias and Protagoras to identify the argumentative strategies and discursive frameworks of the authors themselves , and to examine the hypothesis that the sophistic paideia , which covers a spiritual formation and a political arete , has influenced the Deweyan ideal training of the individual . This research hopes to contribute to studies that seek to situate Dewey in the context of contemporary philosophy and discuss the consequences of their educational propositions .
