Abstract

Chemotherapy has resulted in a better quality of life and increased survival of oncology patients. However, there is a greater risk of cardiovascular disease due to exposure to potentially cardiotoxic drugs such as anthracyclines. It is suspected that patients in remission of hematological disease and over a year without anthracyclines may present signs of cardiotoxicity, even in the absence of symptoms of ventricular dysfunction. There are few studies about the role of the electrocardiogram in the identification of subclinical cardiotoxicity. We hope that it can assist the clinical oncologist in the detection of abnormalities suggestive of cardiotoxicity. Objective: To assess the presence of cardiac abnormalities on the electrocardiogram of patients in remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma or acute myeloid leukemia treated with anthracycline regimen and to correlate these findings with signs of cardiotoxicity identified on echocardiography. Methods: Retrospective and prospective study of patients diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma or acute myeloid leukemia in the Hematology Service of Botucatu Medical School - UNESP, treated with an anthracycline and off treatment for more than 1 year. Clinical assessment, electrocardiography, echocardiography, and statistical analyses will be performed to identify electrocardiographic abnormalities that correlate with signs of subclinical cardiotoxicity. Expected results: to find electrocardiographic abnormalities suggestive of subclinical cardiotoxicity confirmed by echocardiography. (AU)
