Abstract With the evolution of the cell biology and tissue engineering areas new materials have been studied aiming their application in the treatment of bone defects. The polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a thermoplastic polymer that has several important features to be successfully used as a restorative tissue such as its ability to allow cell proliferation and migration. The Rapid Prototyping (RP) is an advanced computerized method that allows the fabrication of 3D structures (scaffolds) of PHB with macro and microstructural characteristics that promote and enhance its ability to allow cell proliferation. These pieces when functionalized with hydroxyapatite or an osteogenic peptide may become potential candidates to stimulate bone formation on certain defects. The objective of this study is to evaluate in vitro the response of pre-osteoblasts cultured on scaffolds of PHB functionalized with hydroxyapatite associated or not with osteogenic peptide. | |
