Cytotaxonomy and chromosomal evolution in Triatominae subfamily

Abstract

The identification, taxonomy and systematics of the triatomines are based mainly on morphological characters. However, there are species very similar or even identical morphological point of view. Thus, new approaches must be used to characterize a taxon. The cytotaxonomy these hematophagous insects have contributed much to the study of complex and subcomplexes of species, the analysis ofspecies morphologically species, the revalidation of species, in evolutionary study and analysis of interspecific and intraspecific variation of the triatomines. However, is still necessary to expand the studies cytotaxonomic in Triatominae subfamily. Thus, the data obtained in this study will be important in different aspects to help the taxonomy and systematics, as well as the understanding of chromosomal evolution of these vectors. Thus, this project aims to assess the cytogenetically Brasiliensis, Rubrovaria and Matogrossensis subcomplex, assist in revalidation of Triatoma bahiensis, describing the nucleolar organizer regions of Rhodnius brethesi and R. montenegrensis, evaluate the evolutionary question of pallescens group, evaluate cytotaxonomy the Rhodniini tribe, describe cytogenetically Rhodnius sp. and assist in the description of new species, studying the process of cryptic speciation in populations of T. sordida of Brazil and assess the evolutionary relationship between T. tibiamaculata and Panstrongylus megistus for cross experimental and, if they provide F1 and F2, for cytogenetic analyzes of hybrids.
