Abstract

Auditory evoked potentials (AEP) relate to electrical changes occurring in peripheral and central auditory pathways, resulting from acoustic stimulations. The clinical application of middle latency auditory evoked potential is used in the evaluation of disabilities that might compromise the central auditory pathways, situated between the brainstem and the auditory cortex primary. This study aims to investigate the potential auditory middle latency response in healthy children and compare the records obtained with the composition of electrode arranged contralateral (C3/A2 and C4/A1) and ipsilateral (C4/A2 and C3/A1) in regarding the stimulation of the right and left ears. This study will be randomized and transversal quantitative and qualitative. As procedure will be carried out the tonal audiometry, in order to verify whether the individual is with the hearing within patterns of normality. If it is not detected any change, will be used the portable equipment of auditory evoked potential Biologic's Evoked Potential System (EP). The record of responses will be performed with the electrodes positioned at C3 and C4 (left hemisphere and right) in reference to the ears A1 and A2 (left and right ear), paired ipsilaterally and contralaterally and ground in Fpz (forehead), alternating the stimulations of right and left ears. For analysis of the study, will be compared different compositions of eletrode so you can create a standard of normality, as well as establish evaluation criteria discovering what the best composition of electrode for central auditory evaluation.
