Abstract

Oxidative stress is characterized by having a key role in the glycation process. This is described as an amplifier and integrator of oxidative damage, so it is necessary to delete all the factors correlated with glycation to protect cells from the effects of oxidative stress . Furthermore, glycation can cause diseases such as microvascular complications, arteriosclerosis, nephropathy, retinopathy and neuropathy, and glycation end products are also produced at an accelerated rate in glycemic patients as in the case of diabetes mellitus. There are numerous of synthetic glycation inhibitors on the market, such as aminoguanidine, however, their practical applications are limited due to its toxicity and side effects. Faced with this, there is a constant seeking for agents that may inhibit glycantion action in the body. It is known that the antiglycation ability of some plants may be greater than the aminoguanidines related activity, and, considering that the oxidation reaction is directly involved in the formation of glycation end products, antiglycation plants with antioxidant properties may protect even more efficient way the body of cellular damage. Thus, this project aims to investigate the antiglycation and antioxidant activity of extracts from leaves, bark and oil of Copaifera langsdorffi and root Mandevilla velutina.
