Vaccinal profile of dialysis-dependent chronic renal failure population in São Carlos - SP, focus on Hepatitis B vaccine

Abstract

Considering the need for assessment of the coverage of the National Immunization Program (PNI) in adult patients with dialysis-dependent chronic renal failure and reported cases of hepatitis B infection in hemodialysis units, we propose study to evaluate the hepatitis B serologic markers and vaccination of patients with renal failure requiring dialysis in São Carlos city and region. The study will be conducted at the Serviço de Nefrologia de São Carlos, which provides regular dialysis services for 158 patients coming in São Carlos city and region. Eligible patients will be adults who agree to participate in the study and to sign the informed consent term. Only patients with available vaccine informations will be considered for study. Patients participating will be submitted to interview, review of medical records and vaccination charts. Patients without hepatitis B serologic markers will be referred for collection of the indicated serological markers. Intended that all patients have anti-HBc, anti-HBs and HBsAg tested. Patients whose vaccination charts were not updated will be further referred to the basic health unit for vaccination, and the possible adverse effects of hepatitis B vaccine will be assessed.
