In vitro evaluation of different reconstruction techniques of canal restored with glass-fiber posts in teeth submitted to in vitro weakened and endodontical treatment

Abstract

The reconstruction of endodontically treated teeth is a challenge in Dentistry due to the high risk of biomechanical failures. Considering the loss of coronal structure, intracanal posts have to be used to enhance retention of the restoration. Among all types of posts available in the market, the glass-fiber post (GFP) has been suggested as an alternative to the cast metal posts since it presents an elasticity modulus similar to the dentine. However, the insertion of GFP in fragile roots can be compromising. Although several techniques for the reconstruction of canal walls have been suggested to reduce the space between the GFP and the canal wall and create a thinner cementation line, few studies evaluated the resistance to fracture of roots in a clinical scenario. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the resistance to fracture of endodontically treated teeth submitted to different reconstruction techniques using dynamic and static tests. Forty human anterior teeth will be divided into 4 groups: G1 (control) - intact root restored with GFP, G2 - root submitted to in vitro weakened restored with GFP, G3 - root submitted to in vitro weakened restored with direct anatomical GFP, and G4 - root submitted to in vitro weakened restored with indirect anatomical GFP. The teeth will be submitted to endodontic treatment considering that the experimental groups (2, 3, and 4) will be characterized by stimulation of root weakened for restoration with GFP using the different techniques. All samples will be submitted to the test of chewing simulation and the survival samples will be submitted to the further test of resistance to fracture using a universal testing machine. The failures will be classified into reparable and irreparable. Data will be analyzed by normality tests and appropriate statistical tests. (AU)
