Abstract

The presence of residual resistant drugs in water may cause adverse effects for the health of human or several aquatic organisms. Therefore, there is an increasing concern about the development of analytical methods with enough sensitivity for resistant drugs determination in aquatic environments, at a concentration range of ng L-1 to µg L-1.There is also an interest in the degradation products of these drugs that may be present in wastewaters. These products must be identified and studied in order to know their degradation, biological activity as well as to develop efficient reactors for degradation of these drugs. This project will evaluate mostly, recuperation, matrix effects and method efficiency in the extraction and separation process of degradation products obtained from fluoroquinolones and sulfonamides. Modern strategies of analysis will be developed using the Green Chemistry philosophy, based on conventional solid-phase extraction and solid-phase microextraction in packed sorbents (MEPS - microextraction by packed sorbent), followed by chromatographic analysis. At first, the generated degradation products by chemical stresses in ultrapure water matrix will be analyzed. After parameters determination, the matrixes will become more complexes such as synthetic medium similar to sewage and biologic matrix (original sewage). This study will evaluate whether the first parameters employed to extractions derived from chemical based degradation medium are prone to be applied in samples from a biological degradation medium.
