Built spaces and edifications of the Roman period at the Athenian Agora (i B.C. - II A.D.)

Abstract

This project, as part of a main undergraduate research, proposes the realization of an in loco study of the meanings of the Athenian agora during the Roman Imperial period, from the 1st century BC to the 2nd century AD, to be accomplished in the Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene (the Italian school of archaeology) in Athens, Greece. The objective is to acknowledge this space, allying the study of the very important revision made by the Italian scholars with in loco activities, which we believe to be fundamental to achieve the central objectives of our main project.Therefore, the investigation concerning the production of the main Roman constructions of theimperial period and its spatial recognition will allow us to better work within the reflections of Build Environment, used in our main research. Moreover, the experience in this traditional archaeological school in Athens, the access of the most updated and revised bibliography and the collecting of updated data will bring a whole enrichment to our research.
