Abstract This project aims to examine the exchanges between the production of American black dance and artistic production of African-Brazilian dances, based on the artistic work of artists who performed between these two countries. We want to analyze how this performance in specific areas and periods, could leave traces that allow us to suggest mutual influences in the art scene of these countries. From historical and ethnographic analysis attempts to evaluate how these choreographers discuss concepts about African traditions, touting elements of Brazilian popular culture and black identity in their creations. We intend to investigate how these creators, located from their artistic backgrounds, career goals, institutional linkages, political commitments and identities reinvent their choreographic practices inserting your processes in contemporary dance production.
