Abstract

Are already well-established benefits of breastfeeding for the health of mothers and babies, as well as being an important factor in reducing child mortality. Despite this, breastfeeding rates are still far from adequate and in the case of a complex practice, there are several factors involved in their development and in the early weaning. The maternal employment indicated as one of the factors that influence the initiation, duration and intensity of breastfeeding. In this sense, protection laws, such as maternity license, keep in order to provide breastfeeding. Aim: analyze the profile of breastfeeding and its association with maternal work status. Methods: it's a descriptive and transversal study based on data from II National Survey of Breastfeeding's Prevalence -2008 and the Breastfeeding and Municipalities Project - 2011, collected during the National Campaign of Vaccination in Ribeirão Preto city. It will be analyzed child feeding data from the first year of life, status of work and maternal characteristics. A descriptive and analytics statistic analysis will be realized, with a significance level of 5%.
