Abstract

The microbial biofilms and their products are the main factors influencing the beginning, propagation and perpetuation of chronic apical periodontitis. The application of chemical disinfectant solutions, among them, sodium hypochlorite, is conventionally used in antisepsis of the root canal system. For this irrigation protocols are employed using sodium hypochlorite and intracanal medication between sessions. Thus the aim of this research is to evaluate, in Confocal Microscope Laser Scanning to evaluate the antimicrobial action of irrigation protocols and dressing in different times of application of these agents. The protocols to be tested are: Sodium hypochlorite 2.5% for 5min and 15 min with or without the Folder Calen / PMCC for 7 or 15 days. Distilled water for 30 minutes is used as a control. For the study of biofilm will be used bovine dentin blocks sterilized, placed in a dental appliance which is used by a volunteer for 3 days for oral biofilm formation. After biofilm formation, the samples will be evaluated in Microscope Confocal Laser Scanning for the assessment of bacterial viability. Subsequently the blocks will be submitted to the protocols according to the group. Employees will be 5 blocks per group. After completion of the protocol, the blocks will be resubmitted in the analysis Confocal Microscope Laser Scanning. The difference of the area before and after antimicrobial and demonstrate the ability to eliminate biofilm of each protocol. The data will be compared statistically.
