The use of natural products date from Antiquity, and they are known on the treatment of various diseases, being considered one of the main sources of drugs due to present a wide range of chemical compounds and biological functions. Worldwide, particularly in Brazil, which holds a huge biodiversity, only a small fraction of these organisms is explored. Recently, with the improvement of analytical techniques as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS), and metabolomics approaches and dereplication, which allow to distinguish new compounds from that already described, the number of studied organisms has increased, being the plants a main focus with good results. Malpighiaceae is a tropical family of plants occurring in the most part of Brazil, and known for its antimicrobial activity. Preliminary tests on Núcleo de Bioensaios, Biossíntese e Ecofisiologia de Produtos Naturais (NuBBE) indicated anticholinesterasic activity of some species from this family, making interesting the searching for the compounds responsible for the activity that is related with Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, the objective of this work is to study the metabolomic profile of these plants by MS and NMR, applying dereplication approaches for the isolation of novel compounds. Moreover, we intend to evaluate the proteomic profile and activity tests with the protein extracts, since proteins can help to understand the production of the interest metabolites. There are few studies about proteomics of the Brazilian medicinal plants, and this subject can be valuable taking in account that proteins have several important biological properties that may also have interesting pharmacological properties.
