Abstract

The aim of the project is to investigate existence of matter wave solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) with optical lattices and different types of interactions. First, we intend to study BECs with dipolar interactions. These long-range interactions depend on the dipole-dipole orientation and can generate new types of optical lattices combining nonlinear and non-local properties. Next, we intend to consider cold atoms with spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Quantum many-body systems of ultracold atoms can be accurately experimentally controlled, functioning as an ideal tool in the study of SOC. BEC systems with SOC can display different types of phases and support the existence of solitons in both repulsive and attractive condensates. (AU)
