This work aims to develop specific sensors based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to detect 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin (GEO) at real water samples, i.e., samples collected from Guarapiranga reservoir and from a water treatment plant from SABESP (Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo). These compounds are sub-products from algae decomposition and depending on the concentration they can be toxic, otherwise they can cause unpleasant taste and odor (earthy-musty) to the water distributed to the population. The sensor that is going to be used at this work will be composed by an ITO or gold electrode covered with the MIP and will be interrogated under alternating current and impedance measurements. One sensor without the imprinting will be deposited the same manner as the MIP to evaluate sensors sensitivity and the imprinting efficiency. Additionally, sensor's selectivity will be evaluated measuring water samples containing compounds with similar molecular structure to the target compounds, such as isoborneol. In addition, sensor's lifetime will be evaluated, i.e., for how long they can be used with confiability.
