Abstract

The intervention in schools is a special resource of prevention of drug use among children/adolescents. However, it is necessary the participation of the school in spaces of discussion with educators to promote their involvement with the issue. The research of the thesis project has been developing based on a qualitative approach. Action research is used as a methodological strategy. As a theoretical frame it is based on the humanistic paradigm. Data collection was conducted in three phases during the year 2013: 1st) participatory observation; 2nd) Survey of thematic universe, through in-depth interviews; 3rd) Intervention with focus groups. The data regarding the focus groups have not yet been worked out, and refer to the intervention that was held in the school, with middle school teachers at Ribeirão Preto-SP, Brazil. This research project presents as aims: to participate of a Research Internship abroad in a center of excellent in mental health at York University, School of Nursing, Faculty of Health, in Toronto, Canada; to learn strategies to analysis, interpretation and discuss the focus group data applying qualitative methodology, based on literature on mental health promotion and action research. The work plan pretends to be develop in the period from January to May, 2014, with the supervision and expertise of professor Dr. Nazilla Khanlou, who has been conducting studies and researches in mental health and with youth employing qualitative methodologies and participatory action research.
