Abstract

With this project, the proponent wishes to be trained in the application of a new investigation technique of groundwater contamination in fractured aquifers named "Discrete Fracture Network Approach" in the Centre G360 of the University of Guelph (Canada), that is directed by the researchers Dr. Beth Parker and Dr. John Cherry, who developed the methodology. The foreseen duration of this traineeship is of 3 months, starting preferably from February/2014 on, mainly due to the schedule of the research project named GESOL (FINEP), coordinated by the proponent, that foresees the accomplishment of field work activities still during the first semester of 2014. The traineeship represents an important step for the preparation of the GESOL field work activities, as well as the accomplishment of a detailed pre-field planning. It is expected that this traineeship will result in a series of benefits of academic, scientific and institutional development issues. The academic benefits are related to the reinforcement of the existent cooperation of undergrad and graduate students exchange between the universities; the scientific benefits are related to the remarkable interest that the results of the project GESOL may present to the scientific community; and finally, the traineeship will provide new ideas for the future development of CEPAS-IGc-USP, which represents a desirable benefit for the institutional development.
