Abstract

In the last years the relation between gravitation and some problems of quantum field theory known as the anti-de Sitter (AdS)/conformal field theory (CFT) correspondence has become an important tool in exploring a variety of aspects of highly interacting systems. Lately, several gravitational models have been used to study the physics from strong interactions to condensed matter systems at zero temperature as well as atfinite temperature. The AdS/CFT correspondence is also used to investigate fundamental problems in gravitation theory, which cannot be analyzed within the current theories of gravitation, such as the spacetime singularities and the information loss in black holes. The aim of the present work is to apply the AdS/CFT correspondence tools in the study of the fundamental properties of several different physical systems. In the gravitation side, we are going to analyze the quasinormal mode spectra of charged rotating anti-de Sitter black holes and explore the connection of such modes to the poles of the retarded Green functions of the dual conformal field theory. On the CFT side, the black hole perturbations and the quasinormal modes shall be used to calculate physical quantities such asthe transport coefficients of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and the hadron spectrumthrough the AdS/CFT models, and also the spectrum of elementary excitationsof the current-current correlation functions appearing in systems asholographic superconductors.
