Abstract This study consider the potential use of agro-industrial wastes how green coconut shell and sugar cane bagasse, with the purpose of add value to these materials, through the fabrication of multilayer particleboards (3 layers: 2 outer layers and one internal layer), using castor oil polyurethane adhesive. The panels produced will be evaluated by physic-mechanical tests: bulk density, density profile, water absorption, swelling in thickness, MOR, MOE, internal bond, axial withdrawal of screw, hardness Janka and rugosity with the objective to check the characteristics of material and compare them with their requirements for use; micro-structural: SEM microscopy and thermo-gravimetric analyses, to identify microstructural characteristics of the composite for interpreting the physical-mechanical properties of the product; durability: biodegradation (fungi), natural aging and accelerated aging, with the objective to get close the product to real condition of exposure; chemical: silica content, in order to guide the process of machining the panel. The results will be compared with the standard national and international recommendations and will be probably verify the potential of these panels for different applications in the industry furniture, construction, packing and related areas. | |
