Abstract

In this work it will be accomplished the cementation and nitriding thermochemical treatment in P20 tool steel, being varied the treatment time of the material. Thus, it will be determined the thickness of the formed layers. The specimen will be submitted to a solid cementation treatment using a fixed temperature and different range of treatment time. For this, it will be used vegetable coal and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as agents of responsible chemical activation for the carbon monoxide generation (CO) during the solid cementation. This process is considered correct ecologically from the environmental point of view, for the use of the calcium carbonate instead of the traditional barium carbonate that possesses environmental restrictions. The plasma nitriding of the specimen will be accomplished at different times, the fixed temperature in a gaseous mixture of N2 and H2. The formed layer will be characterized for metallography and microhardness. Micro-wear test for fixed sphere will be realized to verify the influence of formed layer in wear strength of studied material. (AU)
