Abstract

Strawberry is susceptible to many pests and diseases that cause producers losses. The control with plant protection chemical products has not presented satisfactory results. In recent years, the fight against this scourge has been hampered by the occurrence of resistant populations of active principles of the plant protection products more used in this crop. In conventional cultivation of strawberry, the great use of chemicals has brought concerns both of technical nature and trading, because this increases the risk of pesticides residues in fruits, as well as the poisoning of farmers and the contamination of the environment by the manipulation of agrochemicals, characterizing it also as a social problem. The use of entomopathogenic micro-organisms comes to occupy a market niche in constant growth. The growth of organic production as well as the search for alternative control by producers, who adopt traditional techniques, has resulted in greater use of agents of biological control. This project is part of a project entitled IMBICONT FAPESP: Improved Biological Control is IPM in fruits and berries (Process næ FAPESP 2011/51556 -3) that is a partnership between the ESALQ-USP in Brazil and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. The project aims to find solutions for a sustainable use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in strawberry in the two countries. The design presented below seeks to understand the interactions of beneficial natural enemies associated with strawberry to develop strategies for the use of entompathogenic fungi in this crop. The overall objective of this project is to find solutions for the sustainable use of biological control strategies in a conservative way through the fungus Neozygites floridana and inundative biological control with hypocrealean fungi (Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae and Isaria fumosorosea) in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on strawberry in Brazil and in Denmark.
