Discourse, politics and poetics: discourses about the poet and poetry in the Ministry of Culture

Abstract

This project aims at analyzing what is said about "poets" and "poetry" at Ministério da Cultura (MINC)'s website from the French Discourse Analysis point of view, according to Michel Pecheux and his group's perspective. Our main concerns are to understand (I) what politics say about poetry and the role of the poet in contemporary Brazilian society, (II) the discourses manifested and / or silenced by political practices applied during the presidential administrations of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, and (III) the ways in which these discourses shape themselves considering their linguistic and historical materiality. In this sense, we are interested in describing and interpreting where such speeches appear (in which pages, sessions, genres), what they are really about (which already-said they reiterate and in which paraphrastic chains they operate) and how these speeches are produced (which linguistic, enunciative and textual resources they employ to produce their effects of meaning). In other words, we seek to approach this question in a simultaneous way, descriptively, explanatorily and critically. (AU)
