Abstract

Although the scientific literature has extensively studied the clinical manifestations of the different levels of myelomeningocele MMC, little attention has been paid to cardiopulmonary dysfunction in this disease. The evaluation of cardiorespiratory capacity by maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max), has been used as a means of predicting risk factors related to health, but the gold standard technique requires specifics that limit their widespread use. but the gold standard technique requires specifics that limit their widespread use. However, the objective is to verify if aerobic capacity of wheelchair users with myelomeningocele obtained by direct test as compatible as estimated by indirect test, and analyze data that predisposes to cardiovascular risks. Participate in this cross-sectional study, children and adolescents of both sexes, aged between 5 and 15 years, separated into two groups: GM - 11 non ambulatory individuals with myelomeningocele wheelchair users; and GC - 22 healthy individuals. The initial evaluation will consist of: anthropometric data, body composition by Bioelectrical Impedance, isometric muscle strength by dynamometer Hand-Held, grip strength by dynamometer Bulb, the level of spinal cord injury through protocol Hoffer et al. (1973) in GM, and, evaluation of Spontaneous Baroreflex Sensitivity (SBRE) and Variability of Systolic Blood Pressure and Heart Rate (VPAS and VFC). Subsequently will be forwarded to realization of direct and indirect VO2max tests. To evaluate the results, we used descriptive analysis and graphics, Pearson correlation coefficient, analysis of variance (ANOVA), non-parametric techniques (Kruskal-Wallis). Student t test for comparison between two groups or nonparametric Wilcoxon test. In all analyzes will set a significance level of 5%.
