Abstract The oral microbiota is defined as one of the most complex of entire body, this one presents more than 700 bacterial species that cause various diseases found in humans, among them caries and endodontic infections are the most worrying. The elimination of microrganisms from infected root canals has been a constant concern in endodontics, currently the chemicals compounds used in the cleaning of root canals causes undesirable effects to the patient. In the search for new products that are less harmful the patient we highlight the natural products with promising potential. The copaifera tree oil resin is traditionally used in Brazilian folk medicine to treat a variety of diseases and symptoms. Among the widely species found in our country stands out the Copaifera duckei Dwyer, which has been widely used as anti-inflammatory and antiseptic for several generations, this specie is the most commonly used for production of copaiba oil resin. Based on the popular culture and in previous studies in the literature that shows this specie has antimicrobial activity makes deep studies of Copaifera duckei oil resin becomes relevant. The aim of the present work is realize the study of antibacterial and cytotoxic activity of Copaifera duckei oil resin and fractions against relevant and representative microrganisms of oral infections. The methodology for the evaluation of in vitro antibacterial activity will be performed by the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). From the significantly promising metabolites of Copaifera duckei oil resin are still determined the Fractional Inhibitory Concentration (FIC) , antibiofilm activity and bactericidal kinetics. The cytotoxic potential of Copaifera duckei oil resin will be assessed by XTT assay. These studies are fundament tools that will contribute to a better understanding of biological activities of Copaifera duckei oil resin, so we expected cooperating in the search for new therapeutics forms against oral pathogens. | |
