Currently, large eddy simulations (LES) are playing an important role in the study of turbulence, aero-acoustics and combustion. In LES, the larger scales are resolved and the small scales are modeled by a subscale model. The advantage of this type of simulation for the study of turbulence lies in the fact that the production of turbulence happens primarily in the large scales. Furthermore, the behavior of the large scales is extremely affected by the topology of the flow under analysis. In this context, the main objective of this work is to study flows near walls, in regions with curvature, to evaluate the effect of adverse pressure gradients in the flow statistics, analyzing the consequences of pressure gradients in the production, transport and turbulent energy dissipation. The formulation used in the simulations is a LES formulation, and the flows that are being investigated consider moderate Reynolds numbers, for which no data are available for direct simulations in literature. Thus, we intend to obtain a better understanding of the turbulent structures generated in the region of adverse pressure gradients and the mechanisms for production of turbulence in these regions.
