Abstract

With the objective of ensuring the structural integrity of aeronautic structures, many structural health monitoring techniques have been studied. One of the most recent technique consists on using continuous sensors, made of thin nanocomposite films. The advantage of using such materials is the possibility to apply these sensors at complex surfaces, covering a large area using few aquisition terminals. The most used nanocomposite for damage detection is the carbon nanotube (CNT). This work proposes to utilize alternative materials such as ZnO or ITO (Indium tin oxide) nanowires inserted in a PMMA (polimetilmetacrilate) matrix to cover the monitored surface. It is hopped for this study to develop a damage/impact monitoring method and with this the obtained results will be compared with the results obtained through electro-mechanical impedance technique.
