Burnout Syndrome and school engagement in Pharmacy-Biochemistry students

Abstract

The aim of this study is to estimate the school engagement and the involvement of Biochemistry-Pharmacy students by the Burnout syndrome. Every enrolled graduating student of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UNESP in 2013, full-time period (n=280) and evening period (n=150), will be invited to participate. As measurement instruments will be used a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Version (MBI-SS), and the Scale of School Engagement. The questionnaire will be self-filled by students while still in class, during pre-scheduled periods according to the graduation responsible professors of the Biochemistry Pharmacy department. The psychometric sensitivity of the instruments will be estimated by summary and form measurements. Confirmatory factor analysis will be performed using x2/df, CFI, GFI, and RMSEA. Convergent validity will be estimated by the average variance extracted (AVE) and composite reliability (CR). The reliability of the instruments will be estimated by Cronbach's Coefficient Alpha. The prevalence of Burnout syndrome will be estimated by point and Confidence Interval (CI95%). The comparison of the mean scores (School engagement and Burnout) according to the variables of interest will be accomplished by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). A Pearson´s Correlation Matrix (r) among the scale´s factors will be made and the significance will be evaluated by t Student test. The significance level adopted will be 5%. (AU)
