The current project is the study of the secondary metabolites active produced by endophytic fungus associated from aerial parts of Paepalanthus gi- ganteus (Eriocaulaceae. There is more than two decades our team have been studying species of this family, focused in the isolation by chroma- tography methods like gel permeation chromatography, silica gel column chromatography, HPLC, HSCCC. More than two dozen of species already were studied and its metabolites eluci- dated by spectrometric and spectroscopic methods (MS, IR, UV, NMR). Therefore, other perspective that still does not addressed with Eriocaulaceae is the study of endophytic fungus associated with species of this family. Seeing the current impor- tance and relevance of natural products from fun- gus, we are implementing in our team the chemis- try study of endophytic fungus associated from Eriocaulaceaes in collaboration with the group led by Prof. Dr. Angela Regina Araújo (NUbbe- IQ - Unesp, Araraquara). The knowledge of the secondary metabolites from endophytic fungus complement notably the wide phytochemical work whose our team has been doing for this years. The purpose under- graduate research project will be to accomplish the cultivation of the endophytic fungus associa- tes from P. giganteus, to prepare the extracts from fungus and the relative fingerprint by HPLC-PDA and by HPLC-ESI-IT-MS of each extract. For the compounds already known will be identified with co-injections of standard and metabolite, does not isolate and does not identify should be realized fractionation and purifications by chromatography methods.Parallel will perform the antimicrobial assays of extracts, fractions and pure substances.
