Abstract

The chronicity of diabetes reflects the continuous coexistence with the raise of blood glycemic levels. The recommended treatment for diabetes mellitus (DM) involves a lot of changes in lifestyle and drug treatment, among them, the use of exogenous insulin. The technique of administering insulin directly affects the metabolic control, and, consequently, the development of chronic complications of DM. The aim of this study is to delineate the sociodemographic and clinical profile of diabetes carrier people who use insulin and analyze the practice of self care, focusing on insulin administration. It is an epidemiological study, cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical that will be developed along the Auxiliary Unit Health School Center, Botucatu Medicine School / UNESP (UA-CSE/FMB), Vila Ferroviária. First it will investigated the set of DM carrier patients using insulin with the aim of clinical and sociodemographic characterization and identification of those who self-administrate this product. Later, it will be observed the execution of the insulin administration technique that will occur in the patient's home. For data collection will be used an instrument consisting of open and closed questions and checklist for observation of procedures for self-administration of insulin. The data will be codified and entered into a spreadsheet of Excell ® and the characterization of patients will be performed by the use of the descriptive statistics and the analysis of factors associated with the best score of self-administration of insulin will be performed by the chi-square test or Fisher exact. The variables that show association with the dependent variable, to the level of 5% will be included in the logistic regression model, in order to know their independent effect. In all the tests, it will be utilized the significance level of 5% of probability or the corresponding p-value. To perform all the analysis it will be utilized the SAS software for Windows, version 9.2. (AU)
