This PhD project has as main target the development of a new approach for the synthesis of functionalizated pyrrolidines and piperidines using suitable Morita-Baylis-Hillman, as building blocks. Poly-hydroxylated pyrrolidines and piperidines show a remarkable inhibitory activity against some glycosidases and other enzymes associated with the metabolismo of N-linked glycoproteins. These heterocycles can be used as prototype for the design of new medicines to the treatment of diabetes, cancer, viral infections and lysosomal storage disorders. (AU)
