Myocardial acute infarction (IAM), the major cause of death in the world, is a ischemic coronarian desease, whose more common cause is occlusion of one or more coronarian artheries which create ischemia and tecidual necrosis. Isoproterenol (ISO) is a B-adrenergic agonist that at high doses contract coronarian artheries conducing to myocardial ischemia, and augment intracelular Ca2+, making a oxidative stress, which culminate on apoptosis. Considering the Citrus aurantium essential oil (OEC) antioxidant and angiogenic effects on gastric ulcers treatment in rats, this project propose to evaluate the effect of OEC on isoproterenol-induced myocardial injury. Male Wistar rats aging 6 to 7 weeks will be utilized. The preventive effect of OEC on myocardial infarction will be evaluated. Thereunto, they will receive by gavage during 7, 14 or 30 days, OEC (250mg/kg) or vehicle (Tween 80 at 8%, 10 ml/kg) and, at the last days of pretreatment, will be administeres ISO (100mg/kg) ou saline (1ml/kg) sc. 48 hours after first dose of ISO, rats will be euthanized. As analysis parameters of tecidual injury, will be made: serum analyze of myocardial necrosis marker (CK-MB), complete hemogram, myocardial enzimatic analyzes (total glutathione, malondialdheyde, myeloperoxidase and metalloproterinases)and histopathologie (neutrophil infiltration and injury degree), urea, creatinine (renal function), AST and ALT (hepatic function).
