Abstract

Graphene is a sheet of carbon with one atom thickness, but it possesses an incredible number of unique electronic, mechanical, and photonic properties, as well as being incredibly strong. The traditional process for the synthesis of graphene involves several steps, which increases the cost of production, but also uses hazardous materials as reducing agents or solvents such as hydrazine, which makes the process environmentally unfriendly. Hence, development of a facile and eco-friendly method to prepare graphene is desirable. In the present project, we will be employed the electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in order to obtain graphene sheets in high quality and high yield decorated with Ag or Pt nanoparticles, aiming two distinct potential applications: sensors for detection of glucose and H2O2 and catalyst supports as an alternative for conventional carbon supports in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs).
