The presence of the Greco-Roman literature in Catatau of Paulo Leminski

Abstract

The project intends to study the presence of Greco-Roman literature in the work of Paulo Leminski. It is the best known prose book author, sorted by himself as a "novel-idea" in its second edition published in 1989. It is a text that relates to the forefront issues concerning sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Using resources such as neologisms, philosophemes, aphorisms and puns nonsense, the work can be considered a novel Tropicalista, Concretist, Neo-Baroque. Taking into consideration all these language strategies used by the author and focusing on the use of the Latin language are issues motivating this project which texts of classical Latin literature were used by Paulo Leminski, and how and with what objectives these references are incorporated into his narrative. We are interested in providing an analysis of Catatau that make possible reinterpretations of Latin sources, seeking to interpret how these allusions are present in the work, reflecting on the reception, reinvention and reinterpretation of the Greco-Latin literature in contemporary literature.
