The "paulistas" of the "in-between place": cinema in São Paulo between the Cinema Novo and the Boca do Lixo

Abstract

This abroad internship project is linked to a doctorate's research in progress "The "Paulistas" of the "in-between place": cinema in Sao Paulo between the Cinema Novo and the Boca do Lixo", whose purpose is analyze sociologically the trajectories and the works of a filmmakers group that, according to our main hypothesis, were located throughout the decades of 1960 and 1970 in an "in-between" place, having, on one side, the Cinema Novo - main aesthetical cultural reference and the dominant group at the time - and on the other side, the conditions of film production that existed in São Paulo, which passed largely by the so called São Paulo's Boca do Lixo. As stated in the initial research project, it is believed that an internship abroad will add substantial contributions to this research. Not only as regards the increase of bibliographic database, the maturing of theoretical and methodological understanding of the object, but also in the input of new data for reflection, especially regarding the reception of the "Paulistas" films abroad, in line or not with the reviews of the Cinema Novo. The desired destination is France and the internship should be developed at the Université Paris III - Sorbonne Nouvelle, under the supervision of Professor Michel Marie. (AU)
