Abstract

Studies have documented the presence of inhibitory effect efferent pathway on otoacoustic emissions, when they are registered with the simultaneous presentation of noise in the opposite ear. The procedures to investigate the contralateral inhibition of otoacoustic emission are configured as non-invasive and objective methods for assessing the efferent auditory system. It allows analize the efferent action on the active micromechanical properties and nonlinear outer hair cells of the cochlea and, in a more generally integrity of the brainstem. Objective: analyze the efferent inhibitory effect on transient otoacoustic emissions (EOAT) in schoolchildren of five years old, quantifying the change in amplitude between the with and without contralateral noise conditions, considering the variables: gender and ear. Method: will be evaluated 30 children aged 5:0 e 5:11 with normal hearing and present otoacoustic emissions by transient stimulation with linear clicks intensity of 60 dBNPS. Will be investigate the occurrence of reduction in the amplitude response provided with contralateral noise compared to the without noise condition. After collecting, the data will undergo statistical analysis in order to establish possible relations. (AU)
