Historical aspects of the concept of discourse in French discourse analysis

Abstract

In our research we work on the reception of the Discourse Analysis approach in Argentinian Linguistics and compare it with the same process in Brazil. To this purpose, we have collected a corpus consisting of interviews of specialists, magazines and study syllabuses of different subjects in the College of Letters at the University of Buenos Aires. The time span chosen (1983-1989) is a period of the political opening that will allow for deep changes in the university: the democratic normalization and the establishment of Linguistics as an independent area of study. Our starting point is linguistic historiography and Foucault´s concepts of history and event with the goal of understanding the development of the different ways to study discourse along time, specifically bearing in mind the cases of Argentina and Brazil. With the tutoring of Professor Dominique Maingueneau, PhD, specialist in Epistemology of Language Sciences - French linguistics and discourse analysis - we will address the history of discourse as object of study of French linguistics, to then be able to think of its influence with Brazil and Argentina.
