Abstract

This research goes through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in Portugal. It is linked to a main research in Brazil which has as object the prayer vigils in the hills among charismatic Catholics, whose field is the city of Marilia, Midwest region the state of São Paulo. The Brazilian research interprets these vigils and demonstrations relating to religious situations and performances injunctions own marked by a contemporary processes of globalization and by tensions arising between traditional and new, that reframe and reinterpret aspects present in the religious field. Aiming a comparative perspective with the case in Brazil, this research will aim to observe and discuss how charismatics Portuguese experience their faith considering the influences of globalization, so that you can then start comparing the two countries and try to better understand the Brazilian reality. It is known that religion is a universal culture, but their experiences have different expressions in each culture. Accordingly, it is proposed to identify the existence of critical points in the universe charismatic Portuguese - essentially traditionalist, characterized by a strong emphasis on devotional liturgical ritual, a context in which the charismatic movement have little penetration in the hierarchy and religious boundaries established with evangelical Protestants - and at the same time, distinctions or similarities between Catholicism charismatic Brazilian model - centered on a dynamic performative, in which the figure is highlighted and the laity hierarchical loop is loose, allowing even the appearance of vigils in the hills (GABRIEL, 2009, 2010; RODRIGUES, 2013).
