Abstract

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), in high and low field, is one of the most important spectroscopy techniques used in qualitative and quantitative analysis. Recently, NMR started to be coupled with other analytical techniques such as chromatography and electrochemistry. The NMR research group Embrapa Instrumentation has used successfully in both the high-field NMR as in low field for studies of electrochemical reactions in situ (EC-NMR). Among these results in situ EC-NMR has been used to monitor electrodeposition reactions of copper, iron and manganese and electrodecomposition of organochlorine compounds. However, it has not been reported studies the use of EC-NMR technique to monitor the process of biosorption of metals and herbicides. Therefore, this application will be explore in this project that aims to monitor of the decontamination of metals such as iron, chromium, nickel and copper, as well as herbicides, as examples, Paraquat and Picloram in aqueous systems using an agent biosorption of the biopolymer chitosan and EC-NMR techniques.
