Abstract

The moment we started studying Emílio Guimarães Moura (1901-1971), we stumbled up with his intention in creating a different way that will ride the substances of lyric and the existential languages and, thus, we will analyze and verify this mystical way in Moura and the figure of the Muse in his poetry after his Works Canto da hora amarga (1936) and Cancioneiro (1945). The miner's poetic work finds in the Second Modernist Generation universalism a way to the transcendence that emits from his symbolist poetry and brings to us the negativism and the pessimism that consist or in a poetic excessive and full of questions about an introspective world, or in its classic restart of the mysteries of human existence and poetry. With its ontological questions, the poet creates the myth of his own poetry, which is transformed in his Muse and can be found only in a locus amoenus. Besides this "neoclassic" restart, there's also a modern spirit objectifying the self poetic lost among several different voices, which results in "multiple" poetry. So we will reevaluate the inclusion of Emílo Moura's poetic in the context of the Brazilian modern or modernist literature through a bibliographic review and analysis of the author's poems noticing the significance of the poet's questions about metalinguistic constructions and representation of the multifaceted "me" in 20th Century's poetry.
