Abstract

This project aims to study the time-reversal method for locating faults in electric power distribution systems. This method, already used in acoustic problems, has recently been applied in the field of electromagnetism (Manesh et al., 2012). For a performance evaluation of this method, it is necessary to know the theoretical background of electromagnetic wave propagation in transmission lines. This can be achieved through the study and use of physical and mathematical models for solving numerical and computational tools, specifically designed for the calculation of electromagnetic transients. After mastering the wave propagation theory, studies will be conducted on various techniques for locating faults in electric power distribution systems. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of applying the method of temporal reversal will be contextualized from comparisons with other methods of fault location. (AU)
